Studio idir’s Katie Stringer was named Rising Star in Architecture at the 2025 Building and Architect of the Year Awards earlier this year, recognising her exceptional talent, creativity, and leadership in the field of architecture. Her thoughtful and empathetic approach, combined with expertise in Passivhaus design, highlights her transformative impact on sustainable and community-focused architecture.
At just 31 years old, Katie balances a thriving career with living with a chronic illness, bringing a unique perspective and authenticity to her work. This year, she led projects including the award-submitted ‘1774 Pavilion’ and a consultation to improve accessibility to a local community greenway, demonstrating innovation, care, and attention to context in every project.
Judges praised Katie for her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to sustainable, socially impactful design. “Katie embodies the positive influence architecture can have on society and community,” the panel noted. “Her beautifully executed work, combined with advocacy for women in architecture, showcases innovation, expertise, and leadership, making her a truly deserving Rising Star in Architecture.”
With momentum building across the industry, the question now is: who will set the benchmark in 2026? We’ll soon find out, with entries now open for the 2026 awards until 19 December 2025, and winners to be announced on 23 April 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry.
The Building & Architect of the Year Awards, organised by BusinessRiver, continue to celebrate creativity, technical excellence, and sustainability across Ireland’s built and industrial environments. Each year, the programme unites innovators, operators, and leaders, providing a platform to showcase projects that set new benchmarks in efficiency, environmental performance, and operational excellence.
