Sioux Falls-based firearms suppressor manufacturer Silencer Central has acquired the vacant former Wells Fargo call centre at 4811 N. Fourth Avenue in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, securing a property adjacent to its existing headquarters to support future business growth.
SiouxFalls.Business reported that the purchase was completed last week by founder and CEO Brandon Maddox, who noted the irony that the building had previously belonged to the bank that declined his application for a business loan in the early days of the company.
Maddox said he had approached Wells Fargo for financing when starting Silencer Central, but was turned down on grounds of reputational risk. He described it as interesting that the bank was not willing to finance him at the time, and that the company is now buying what he described as the bank's biggest call centre in town.
The newly acquired property at 4811 N. Fourth Avenue sits next to Silencer Central's existing headquarters at 4901 N. Fourth Avenue, which itself is a former Cigna Home Delivery Pharmacy building that was fully retrofitted and recently expanded with a new distribution centre.
Maddox indicated the acquisition is part of a broader ambition to develop the surrounding area into a firearms manufacturing cluster. He said the company would like to recruit other firearms manufacturers to Sioux Falls and described the possibility of establishing a firearms park in the city, drawing on out-of-state manufacturers that Silencer Central already works with as suppliers of accessories, adapters, and suppressor components.
The acquisition reflects a wider trend in Sioux Falls of former financial services call centres being converted to light industrial and manufacturing use, as hybrid working patterns reduce demand for large-footprint office operations in the market.
