Mike Haslam joins the judging panel of the Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2026 as Director of Haslam & Co Architects, bringing over 25 years of sustained commitment to sustainable design and a body of built work that has helped define responsible architecture in Ireland.
A graduate of the Universities of Edinburgh and Bath, Haslam is a registered architect and holds membership of the RIAI, RIBA, and the Irish Green Building Council. His international career has taken him through respected practices including FCB Studios and Edward Cullinan Architects in the UK, Boge Lindner-Boge and Urban Projekt in Germany, and Estudio Gazapo Lapayese in Spain, a breadth of exposure that informs both the technical and philosophical dimensions of his design approach.
At HCoA and formerly at Solearth Architecture, Haslam has delivered a portfolio of nationally recognised projects including the award-winning Airfield Estate, the Daintree Building, and Grow HQ, buildings that demonstrate how sustainability and design quality can operate as complementary rather than competing priorities.
His research output reinforces that practical conviction. Published work spans applications of round-wood structures, Slow Architecture, Building Biology, and natural ventilation strategies within nearly zero energy building frameworks, areas increasingly central to how Ireland's architectural sector responds to climate and regulatory demands.
As a lecturer and studio leader at SABE, TU Dublin, Haslam brings the same evidence-led rigour to his judging role, assessing entries for the depth of their environmental thinking as much as the ambition of their design.
The Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2026 ceremony takes place on Thursday, 23rd April 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry. View the full shortlist, secure your seat, and subscribe at the official awards website for the sector’s exclusive insights and updates.
