Portland-based LRS Architects has named Janice Sanada as president, effective last week, succeeding Trish Nixon, who will continue to focus on talent development and lead the Multifamily Housing Studio.
The firm, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, will rely on Sanada to drive long-term strategic execution and operational alignment across its studios.
Sanada joined LRS Architects in 2003, became principal in 2013, and was appointed managing principal in 2021. In her new role, she will oversee day-to-day operations, guide team development, and maintain project continuity for clients, ensuring design excellence across multiple architectural disciplines.
A University of Oregon graduate, Sanada has over 30 years of experience leading projects in senior living and life plan communities, spanning independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing environments.
She is a LEED Accredited Professional and holds architectural licences in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Maryland, Arizona, and Texas. Sanada is also active in professional organisations, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments (SAGE), and the International Code Council Committee on Health Care.
With Sanada assuming operational and strategic leadership, Nixon will dedicate more time to mentoring, professional development programmes, and nurturing emerging leaders across the firm. This transition supports both continuity and growth, reinforcing LRS Architects’ position in the senior living and multifamily sectors.
“Sanada will guide our long-term strategy while championing design excellence,” a company statement noted, highlighting the firm’s commitment to both innovation and operational stability.
