desiun architects was recognised as the winner of House Extension Refurbishment – Medium at the 2025 Building & Architect of the Year Awards early last year for their transformative work at No.10 Leeson Park Avenue in Dublin.

The project reimagined a historic Victorian house into a modern, accessible home suitable for retirement living. By reversing the traditional layout, relocating the kitchen to the entrance level, and introducing a timber-screened dining space, the design maximised parkland views, enhanced daily functionality, and struck a careful balance between privacy and connection to the surrounding landscape.

“This entrant impressed our panel with its ingenious response to a challenging and restricted site. The clever spatial planning, use of natural light, and thoughtful material choices create a home that feels open, inviting, and intimately connected to its surroundings. The team turned the constraints of the site into opportunities, delivering a beautifully crafted, light-filled, and highly functional home,” the judges said.

The recognition reflects the rising standards within the Building & Architect of the Year Awards, highlighting how creativity, sustainability, and context-driven design continue to reshape residential architecture in Ireland.

Building on the success of 2025, who will set the benchmark in 2026 for residential design that blends functionality, sustainability, and human-centred innovation?
