
Home building slows as commercial projects keep sector afloat
Home building fell for the second month running in June, with AIB’s Construction PMI slipping to 48.6 from May’s 49.2, marking the fastest housing decline in nearly 18 months. Civil engineering activity also dropped, leaving commercial projects as the only area of growth, maintaining momentum for a fifth straight month. While new orders, hiring, and input buying edged up modestly, optimism across the sector dipped to a three-month low due to economic and geopolitical concerns. Still, firms remain hopeful for a rebound, driven by expectations of improved housing demand.
