COADY Architects’ Innovation Square Apartments was recognised Housing Project of the Year – Large for its exceptional approach to sustainable, community-focused residential design as at the Architecture Excellence Awards 2025 earlier this year.

Developed on a brownfield site, the project delivers 133 affordable rental apartments, complemented by thoughtfully designed community spaces, a podium courtyard, private parking, and a durable brick façade.

The development also utilises low-carbon district heating sourced from a local data centre, demonstrating a commitment to reducing environmental impact while enhancing quality of life for residents.

“This project sets a high standard for responsible and impactful large-scale housing,” the panel noted. Judges praised COADY Architects for creating a future-focused housing solution that carefully balances quality, sustainability, and social responsibility. They highlighted the innovative use of materials, energy efficiency, and the integration of community spaces as standout elements of the development, exemplifying how architecture can respond to pressing social needs.

With momentum built by COADY Architects across Ireland, the question now is: who will set the benchmark in 2026? Entries for the 2026 Architecture Excellence Awards are open until 19 December 2025, with winners to be announced on 23 April 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry.

The Building & Architect of the Year Award 2026, organised by BusinessRiver, continues to celebrate creativity, technical excellence, and sustainability across Ireland’s built and industrial environments. Each year, the programme unites innovators, operators, and leaders, providing a platform to showcase projects that set new benchmarks in efficiency, environmental performance, and operational excellence.
