Building Stories project maps vacant homes to support housing and climate goals

UCD’s Building Stories initiative is entering a new phase with the launch of Living Labs in Monaghan and Cork, combining AI-powered geospatial modelling and citizen science to identify vacant buildings across Ireland. Backed by €690k in National Challenge Fund support, the project aims to provide granular, real-time data to local authorities and policymakers for better housing delivery, carbon reduction, and town centre revitalisation. By integrating satellite imagery, machine learning, and community input, the platform sets a new standard for ethical, data-driven urban management.
