The Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2026 has announced its finalists across 23 competitive categories, confirming the breadth and quality of work shaping Ireland's built environment this year.

The shortlist spans the full spectrum of contemporary Irish practice. Building of the Year recognition extends across Office, Tourism and Hospitality, Public, Medical, Retail, Industrial, and International sectors, alongside dedicated honours for Educational Buildings under and over €10 million.

Housing is prominently featured through the Housing Project of the Year, Single House Building of the Year, House Extension Refurbishment, and the Affordable and Inclusive Housing Project of the Year, categories that reflect the profession's direct response to Ireland's housing challenge.

The programme also gives equal weight to sustainability, conservation, and community impact, with awards covering Net Zero and Passive House buildings, Building Refurbishment, Conservation, Sustainability, Social Impact, and the Design Concept Award.

Three of the most anticipated honours like Outstanding Contribution to Architecture, Building of the Year, and Architectural Practice of the Year will be held back until the ceremony itself, ensuring the gala retains its defining moments.

In the Rising Star in Architecture category, three finalists have been named: Eunan Deeney of Nest Architects, Barry Foote of Reddy A+U, and Frank O'Kane of Studiorogers Architects. Each represents a new generation of Irish architectural talent pushing the boundaries of design, sustainability, and built impact.

The question now is clear: who will define architectural excellence in 2026? With a shortlist of this calibre, the answer will be worth watching.
